Baxter
Baxter spent 12 years of his life in a quiet, one-cat home with an elderly lady who could no longer care for him. When he was returned to the same shelter where he had been adopted as a kitten, he was understandably confused and scared. After so much time as the only cat in a calm, solitary environment, Baxter became fearful and anxious. Labeled as having “behavioral issues,” he was even considered for a barn cat placement. However, what Baxter truly needed was patience, understanding, and time to adjust.
Now, Baxter lives in a multi-pet household. With positive reinforcement training, a harness and leash for supervised time with the other animals, and his favorite Churu treats, he has slowly started to relax and trust again. Though he’s still working through his fears, Baxter has made incredible progress, even showing moments of play and curiosity. He’s very fond of Meeko, which is an amazing step toward his socialization.
But what’s truly unique about Baxter is how he acts more like a dog than a cat. He follows me around the house like a shadow, goes to his room on command, and even gives kisses on request. He loves doing “chompers”—his version of love bites on my hand—and his tail rattles like a snake when he’s excited or curious. Despite his rough start, Baxter has blossomed into a quirky, affectionate companion who’s full of surprises.
With continued love and support, we know he’ll keep growing more comfortable and confident in his new life
